This is 35 - Original

$1,800.00

“This is 35” is a deeply personal exploration of identity, growth, and the contradictions that surface as we come into ourselves. Created on the threshold of a milestone birthday, this piece captures the emotional and psychological terrain of turning 35 as a woman in today’s world.

The work is a constellation of forms—loose, overlapping, layered, and intricate—each shape representing pieces of self: confidence and insecurity, stability and chaos, clarity and confusion. The warm neutrals and bold blacks echo a lifetime of dualities, especially the tension between personal identity and external societal influence.

Words and textures peek through the layers, much like the lived experiences that remain with us: joyful and painful, internalized and resisted. Influenced by the oppressive presence of white supremacy and the yearning to remain true to one's cultural essence, “This is 35” speaks to the complex navigation of being a Black woman growing older, wiser, and ever more whole.

This piece is not just a reflection—it's a declaration. A visual journal of what it means to hold multitudes at a "big age" that often demands more answers than you may have. It’s messy, it’s real, and it’s beautifully unfinished—just like life itself.

Size: 18 ×24
Materials: Wooden Panel, Paper, Finished with 1 coat of Art Resin
